Food Delivery in Korea: Can Tourists Order to a Hotel?
Tired after a day of sightseeing and craving Korean fried chicken? A step-by-step guide to ordering food delivery to your hotel in Korea: asking reception first, choosing a service you can actually use, entering the right address, reading menu options, avoiding double payments, and collecting your order.

You have spent the day walking, sightseeing, and changing subway lines. Back at your hotel, dinner sounds wonderful. Putting your shoes on again does not.
Can you order Korean fried chicken or another meal to your hotel as a tourist?
Often, yes—but first check whether your accommodation permits outside food and where you should collect it. The next step is finding an ordering service that works with your address, contact details, and payment method.
You do not need to understand every delivery app in Korea. You need one workable way to order dinner to the correct place. Here is how to approach it.
1. Ask the hotel before choosing your meal
Start with reception, not the restaurant menu.
Ask whether food delivery is allowed and whether you should meet the rider at the main entrance, lobby, or another designated point. Do not assume that a rider can enter the guest-room floors or that reception will accept food on your behalf.
The Korea Tourism Organization describes lobby collection as a common arrangement for hotel deliveries, while noting that some hotels allow room delivery. Your own accommodation's instructions should determine your plan.
These questions are useful:
| What you want to ask | Korean to show staff |
|---|---|
| Can I order food delivery here? | 여기서 배달음식을 주문해도 되나요? |
| Where should I collect the food? | 음식은 어디에서 받으면 되나요? |
| Could you give me the hotel's Korean address? | 호텔의 한국어 주소를 알려주시겠어요? |
Also ask where to dispose of the packaging afterward. That small question is easier to resolve before you have a bag of containers in your room.
2. Choose a service you can actually use
A popular app is not automatically the most convenient option for your particular trip. Check four things before spending twenty minutes choosing food: language, registration, payment, and delivery coverage.
Shuttle Delivery is one option to investigate. Its official FAQ describes English and Korean ordering, email-based account registration, and major credit-card payments. That does not guarantee that every overseas card will work or that your hotel is within its delivery area. Enter your address and check the available restaurants and checkout options.
Other delivery apps or tourist ordering services may also work. Their language support and verification requirements can differ, so use their current instructions rather than assuming they all require—or all waive—a Korean phone number.
Keep these checks separate:
| Check | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Language | Can you understand the menu, options, and checkout? |
| Registration | Can you complete the required account or verification steps? |
| Contact | How can support or the rider reach you? |
| Payment | Is your payment method accepted at checkout? |
| Address | Are restaurants delivering to your exact location now? |
An English menu alone does not answer the other questions. Likewise, being able to register does not mean the service delivers to every part of Korea.
If you have a data-only travel SIM, check how the service will contact you. Having mobile internet does not necessarily give you ordinary voice calls or text-message verification. Use an available in-app contact method if supported, and ask support about alternatives if you cannot complete a required step.
3. Get the address right before you get hungry
Ask reception for the hotel's Korean address, including the correct branch if the hotel name is used at multiple locations. Copy it carefully into the address search, then check the selected location on the map.
If you use GPS, confirm that it points to the hotel rather than the building next door or a nearby street. If you start ordering while still sightseeing, your current location may not be the place where you want dinner delivered.
The written address, map location, and collection instructions should describe the same destination.
Add a short delivery note based on the hotel's directions. For example, if you have been told to meet the rider outside the main entrance:
호텔 정문 밖에서 직접 받겠습니다. 도착하면 앱으로 메시지 부탁드립니다.
I will collect the order outside the hotel's main entrance. Please message me in the app when you arrive.
Use the message request only if that service supports in-app communication. Otherwise, agree on a contact method you can actually receive.
Do not use the hotel's telephone number as your own contact number without asking reception. A correct building address does not automatically mean staff have agreed to manage your order.
4. Read the options, then check the total
Photos make ordering tempting, but check the selected item and its options before paying.
For chicken, for example, look for whether you have selected bone-in or boneless, one flavor or a combination, and whether drinks are included. For a set meal, check how many items the set actually contains. Do not assume that every item in a promotional photo is part of your order.
Some useful words are:
| Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 배달 | Delivery |
| 포장 | Pickup or takeaway |
| 최소주문금액 | Minimum order amount |
| 배달비 | Delivery fee |
| 추가 | Extra or add-on |
| 순살 | Boneless, commonly used for chicken |
| 맵기 | Spiciness level |
| 수저 / 젓가락 | Spoon and chopsticks / chopsticks |
Pay attention to the difference between delivery and pickup. If you accidentally choose pickup, someone may be preparing your meal without arranging a rider to bring it to you.
The amount you pay may include food, selected extras, delivery, and other displayed charges. For an illustrative example, a ₩22,000 meal plus a ₩3,000 delivery fee would total ₩25,000 if there are no other charges or discounts. This is not a current restaurant price.
Check how the minimum order is calculated rather than assuming the delivery fee counts toward it. Also check whether utensils need to be requested. A hotel room is not guaranteed to have everything you need for dinner.
5. Confirm the order without paying twice
Before your final tap, check the destination, collection point, food, quantity, payment amount, and estimated arrival time. If you are leaving the hotel soon, consider whether there is enough time to receive the order; an estimate is not a guaranteed appointment.
After paying, look for an order number or confirmation in the app or email. A payment notification from your bank should not be your only check that the restaurant order is active.
If the screen freezes, avoid immediately repeating the whole purchase. Check your order history and contact support with the relevant order or payment details. Keep unrelated account information out of screenshots.
A useful support message is:
"My payment appears to have gone through, but I cannot see an order confirmation. Could you check before I place another order?"
If a cancellation occurs, confirm its status and the applicable refund process. A cancelled order and money appearing back in your account are separate stages, and the timing can depend on the service and payment method. Do not assume the balance will update instantly.
6. Stay reachable and collect your own order
Once the order is confirmed, keep your phone nearby and check for delivery updates. If your contact method uses the app, make sure you can receive its messages.
Be ready to go to the agreed collection point as the delivery approaches. Waiting upstairs while the rider waits outside can turn a simple handoff into an unnecessary search.
At a busy hotel entrance, identify your order using the details in the app or receipt. Do not take a bag simply because it is from the restaurant you chose; another guest may have ordered from the same place.
After collecting it, check that the main items are present. If something is missing, use the service's help channel and keep a clear photo of what arrived, along with the order number. Explain which item is missing rather than only saying the order is wrong.
For packaging and leftovers, follow the hotel's instructions. Do not leave bags in the corridor unless the hotel specifically directs you to do so.
7. If delivery does not work, keep dinner simple
You do not have to spend your evening fighting an app. If verification, payment, or the delivery area blocks your order, there are other approaches.
Ask reception whether they can recommend a service or help explain the address and collection arrangements. If they offer to arrange an order, confirm the food, total price, and payment method first. Assistance is something to ask about, not a service every hotel necessarily provides.
Another option is to collect takeaway from a nearby restaurant. Confirm that you selected pickup, check when the order will be ready, and save the restaurant's location before leaving. If the restaurant is close enough, this can be simpler than solving an account problem while hungry.
Room service, where available, or a nearby ready-to-eat option may also suit the evening better. The goal is a meal you can receive comfortably, not proving that you can use a particular app.
8. A short checklist before you order
Before you pay, make sure you can answer these questions:
- Does the hotel allow the delivery, and where will I receive it?
- Is the selected address the correct hotel and branch?
- Can I complete checkout and receive messages or calls through the chosen contact method?
- Have I selected delivery rather than pickup?
- Do I understand the food quantity, extras, and final total?
- Will I be there to collect the meal?
Once those details are settled, ordering becomes much less intimidating. You can concentrate on the enjoyable question: what would you like to eat after a long day in Korea?
